Morgan was probably 7ish. It was dark as they started out and Bumpa started telling about how the skunks come out after dark. He told her they would probably see one and if she didn't want to have any "stinky" occurrences, she had better take along some celery just in case. Doesn't everyone know that Skunks just LOVE celery? (really???)
She got scared, turned around, and booked it back to the safety of the house. Ever since then, Morgan and her Bumpa try to "skunk" each other and see who can outdo the other one. It has been a lot of fun.maineconverthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06906171942194518931noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7829603033482441957.post-82585494815718235572009-05-03T17:57:00.001-07:002009-05-03T18:03:46.850-07:00Bunnies for Gaby
Gaby picked Bunnies to love after Bumpa started a "skunk" relationship with Morgan, and then Mia decided she loved Ducks! My little grandchildren in Germany have always thought that Nana loved hummingbirds...which I do...and so I found one to do a pastel,
thinking of them as I worked on it.
Humming birds are such a intricate little bird and I try to feed them during the summer. Wish they didn't go so fast! Zip..they come..zip..they go. Click on them and you can see the details of the papers glued on. All you need is a catalog of any kind to get colors and textures...even a clothing catalog will do. These are from a quilting catalog. This is great for children to do. Grandchildren: Isaac did a dragon. Ben a tiger. Megan a cat. Camille a horse. They draw the picture onto the oval first, then match the colors of the picture with the papers that are cut into squares and glued on. Then you glue the oval on top. If you find a mat that brings out one of the colors, they are truly beautiful when framed.
The rose one on the left I made especially for our friends, Karl and Jeannine Franson. They seemed delighted with it. Scroll way down and you will find another of sunflowers that I made for my neice, Laura. So satisfying!maineconverthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06906171942194518931noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7829603033482441957.post-61691886308776839872008-02-25T05:46:00.001-08:002008-02-25T05:53:03.457-08:00Birds of a feather flock together.
A sweet young couple moved into our Gardiner Ward and as I got acquainted with her, found that we had tons in common. It brought me to tears more than once. The most precious gift to me was that she loved to paint also. Because of her, I joined the Harlow Gallery in Hallowell. This is a picture that she water painted of a loon and it is exquisite. I took a picture of it and it is on my fridge, "my place of honor". I love looking at it and I love her. Her name is Sara Kardouni, 28 years old. Another blessing of the gospel!maineconverthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06906171942194518931noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7829603033482441957.post-7601190835586581852008-02-25T05:39:00.001-08:002008-02-25T05:42:55.571-08:00These Sunflowers were done in the very first water-color class I took. They were a real still-life.
I am very partial to this picture. Lisa asked for it to go in her bathroom so I gave it to her, knowing I could see it once in a while. I hope she enjoys it as much as I have over the years!maineconverthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06906171942194518931noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7829603033482441957.post-60989138139339681742008-02-25T05:28:00.001-08:002008-02-25T05:39:11.002-08:00These deer were done in an art class. I was supposed to bring a picture to work from and had forgotten. After hunting through many magazines I found this in a "Field and Stream" magazine...a little 2x3 inch picture. I took to it immediately, and figured I could at least fill the class time with working on the drawing of it. But, it went very well and I finished it. It is beautiful in real life...I have it framed on the wall. Personally, it is one of my very favorites.maineconverthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06906171942194518931noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7829603033482441957.post-67001978664942798072008-01-05T18:56:00.000-08:002008-01-05T19:02:20.838-08:00
This is the sweet dog that I grew up with until my teens. What a treasure she was. She was mostly human. She would follow us kids around and we could tell her to do anything, and she would. She was always so glad to see us kids when we came home from school. My daughter, Lianne, has a dog that reminds me so much of Dixie, and that is Murray. He is the very same way. I fell in love with Murray, and I don't like dogs much. I think it was because of the memory of Dixie. Anyway...I came across a picture that looks, to me, exactly like her and I just had to do some art with it. This is pastel again. I enjoy looking at her eyes...wish I could give her a hug!maineconverthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06906171942194518931noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7829603033482441957.post-78428551946052313722007-12-10T07:01:00.000-08:002007-12-10T07:09:04.140-08:00<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_BgF2RL63_DI/R11VyLCWVtI/AAAAAAAAABs/MkM7Q6Pn4HA/s320/ocean+waves.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5142360669971437266" />
I did this "ocean waves" half in the last art class I took and some at home and at the Harlow Gallery where I paint on Tuesdays.. I have many "loves". The first one is children and I this I used as an at-home job of childcare for 29 years. It allowed me to stay home with my own children, brought extra money for the extras of braces, church missions, Christmas, trips and other little pleasures. By the time the last child left home, my daycare days finally came to an end. Towards the end of this career, my second love kicked in, Music. I started giving Piano lessons. Before long I had 20 students. One of my new piano students asked my why I didn't teach art classes to children after seeing some of my own artwork; love number 3. I started advertising and shortly after had 6 students. I have been teaching piano and art for 10+ years.
I even tried subbing for three years. That was quite an adventure too. The first year, I didn't do much. The second year I covered a lot of music and art, which I enjoyed. This last year I did quite a bit of ed-teching and discovered I didn't like it much. "Challenged" children don't like their routine changed or new people to deal with, so it made it difficult. There were a lot of negatives so when I got my paperwork this summer for the next year, I didn't send it back. I have enough going with home, art, piano, and grandchildren that I stay very busy. (besides, I am not as young as I used to be!) Each day is a joy because I love what I do. I have reasonable health now, free of most pain, and that has given me a new lease on life. Also, I have even enjoyed the seasons more this year. So, here I am, now in my midlife joy! I am currently taking a pastel art class through ed. These are the first two pictures I have done. I am finding that I love working with pastels except that my hands get very dirty and dried out. (Maybe rubber gloves may be in order?) So, as I make them, I will post them here to share with you all.maineconverthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06906171942194518931noreply@blogger.com1
