maine tiger lilies

I am doing flower artwork for my "office" for our new living quarters...wherever that ends up being...so I did these tiger lilies as a reminder of our Maine home. We've had these all along the wall on the back side of the house.

Mackenzie's gerber daisies.

Mackenzie is only 13. She has been doing art for several years. She made this as a wedding present for a cousin, who literally cried when she opened this, matted and framed. She really loves water-color pencils, as do I.

Morgan's painting

During one of our art sessions while the s were here, Morgan did this painting.
She did an awesome job...she's only 11!

Isaac's Artic Wolves

I am trying to do a picture for each of the grandchildren over time. I did these white artic wolves for Isaac. I thought they came out pretty well. Animals are really fun in pastel because of the hair.

Lianne's Pansies

Lianne came home in June with the girls for two week. We had art flying almost every minute the girls were in the house. Lianne settled down one evening and did these beautiful pansies in Pastels.

Joshua's Cougar

Joshua came up for a couple days to help his ole' Nana do some work to help with readying the house for sale. He took part in my art class and lo and behold...A MASTERPIECE!

My favorite Sunflower

I found this sunflower picture and it sure "spoke" to me. I couldn't relax until I did it. I wasn't feeling well last night, so I bunkered down in my easy chair with all my materials and away I went!

A Skunk for Morgan

During a visit here in Maine, Morgan, her Daddy Craig, and Bumpa decided to go for a walk one mild evening in the fall. Morgan was probably 7ish. It was dark as they started out and Bumpa started telling about how the skunks come out after dark. He told her they would probably see one and if she didn't want to have any "stinky" occurrences, she had better take along some celery just in case. Doesn't everyone know that Skunks just LOVE celery? (really???)
She got scared, turned around, and booked it back to the safety of the house. Ever since then, Morgan and her Bumpa try to "skunk" each other and see who can outdo the other one. It has been a lot of fun.

Bunnies for Gaby

Gaby picked Bunnies to love after Bumpa started a "skunk" relationship with Morgan, and then Mia decided she loved Ducks! So we have catered to these choices for about 3 years now.

Duckies for Mia

I've decided to do a painting for all my grandchildren, something that they are fond of. It is so enjoyable for me to paint..it brings me such joy. I thought it would be a good gift that would go with them through the ages of time.

An Eagle for my Eagles

This is an Eagle picture that I had drawn 2 years ago, but needed to be painted. I did this with watered down Acylic paints...which actually look like my water color paintings as I paint very bright anyway. It is an excellent media to use...as you can paint layers and change colors after it's dried which you can't do as well in water color.

To Lianne, with love, from MOM

This is a picture I made for Lianne...sending her some spring from Maine.
It was done in Watercolor. I have an unusual watercolor style. I seem to paint very bright.

Happy Birthday tulips for Mary

I really love this type of art...very satisfying. I wanted to do favorite flowers for my favorite people and Mary had a birthday so she was first after the Franson's, our dear friends. Lianne is next...she loves tulips also. If you have a favorite flower, and want one, you'd better be telling me what it is!

My little grandchildren in Germany have always thought that Nana loved hummingbirds...which I do...and so I found one to do a pastel,
thinking of them as I worked on it.

Humming birds are such a intricate little bird and I try to feed them during the summer. Wish they didn't go so fast! Zip..they come..zip..they go. Blink and you miss it!

My New Invention - Paper-Piecing.

These are paper-piecing projects. Click on them and you can see the details of the papers glued on. All you need is a catalog of any kind to get colors and textures...even a clothing catalog will do. These are from a quilting catalog. This is great for children to do. Grandchildren: Isaac did a dragon. Ben a tiger. Megan a cat. Camille a horse. They draw the picture onto the oval first, then match the colors of the picture with the papers that are cut into squares and glued on. Then you glue the oval on top. If you find a mat that brings out one of the colors, they are truly beautiful when framed.
The rose one on the left I made especially for our friends, Karl and Jeannine Franson. They seemed delighted with it. Scroll way down and you will find another of sunflowers that I made for my neice, Laura. So satisfying!

Birds of a feather flock together.

A sweet young couple moved into our Gardiner Ward and as I got acquainted with her, found that we had tons in common. It brought me to tears more than once. The most precious gift to me was that she loved to paint also. Because of her, I joined the Harlow Gallery in Hallowell. This is a picture that she water painted of a loon and it is exquisite. I took a picture of it and it is on my fridge, "my place of honor". I love looking at it and I love her. Her name is Sara Kardouni, 28 years old. Another blessing of the gospel!
These Sunflowers were done in the very first water-color class I took. They were a real still-life.
I am very partial to this picture. Lisa asked for it to go in her bathroom so I gave it to her, knowing I could see it once in a while. I hope she enjoys it as much as I have over the years!
These deer were done in an art class. I was supposed to bring a picture to work from and had forgotten. After hunting through many magazines I found this in a "Field and Stream" magazine...a little 2x3 inch picture. I took to it immediately, and figured I could at least fill the class time with working on the drawing of it. But, it went very well and I finished it. It is beautiful in real life...I have it framed on the wall. Personally, it is one of my very favorites.
